Itcost about $17,000,000 and was opened in 1929, on the second inauguration of President Machado (see illustration, page 358). The central stairway isused only onofficial occasions, theentrances to right and left being those ordinarily open. In the upper left corner is the tower of the Cuban Telephone Company'snew building.
