On a daily survey, we observe the shocking pol lution of the ocean. Blobs of solidified oil-studded with hitch-hikingbarnacles - turn up frequently (be low, right), together with plastic bottles and other human refuse. At times the water lies hidden beneath soapy foam and oily liquids shining in all colors. Although the voyage of ten seems like a vacation time for all hands, I confide to the log, "Our lack of progress is not comforting. We are really very low in the water."
