The Clunker Fully-equipped with polluting exhaust, gripless brakes, treadless tires, faulty lights. Price? Maybe your life. The clunker comes in all makes and all colors. Some are oil-burners, engine knockers, or wrecks, like the one above. These are easiest to spot. And avoid. But they are not the most dangerous clunkers. The most dangerous ones look quite normal. When you find out about the faulty brakes, or lights or tires... it's usually too late. If you're lucky, you live to tell about it. But many innocent victims don't. The clunker can kill. Allstate, for one, is working now to get the clunker off the road. To do it, many states need to pass tough laws, as rec ommended by the National Highway Safety Bureau. Laws that require every car to be inspected reg ularly. That demand every car have lights that light, brakes that brake, horns that blow. And more. Your help is needed. To learn the simple but effective things you can do to help get the needed laws, write the Safety Director, Allstate Insurance Company, Northbrook, Illinois 60062. He'll send you a copy of the new booklet, "Let's make driving a good thing again." /Allstate Let's make driving a good thing again.
