The year's lone eighth-grader, Cragg Courtney, climbed into the family's snowmobile to give those who had skis a tow. I was tempted to hitch a ride myself, but squeals of glee lured me around the side of the building to find a few daredevils sliding down the schoolhouse roof onto a mammoth snowbank. After Lynne shooed the kids inside, I strapped on my skis. As I left, Karl Fellows was at Johnny Wilsey's desk, consulting on a math problem.
