But Hilda doesn't mind. They're just busy rehearsing for the upcoming performances of "Downtown -Your Town;' a musical written by Hilda for her students at St. Clair Elementary School in Sanford, North Carolina. Hilda wrote the show as part of a local educational program. The aim was to combine the study of Sanford architec ture with the town's early history. "I felt realistic stories, using fourth-grade chil dren as characters, would be more inter esting and motivating,' remembers Hilda. The opening night of "Downtown Your Town" was March 2,1989, at the Temple Theater in downtown Sanford. Popular acclaim has brought the musical back again this year. "Teaching through drama and music isa wonderful vehicle for making history come alive for children;' says Hilda. She should know; other teaching plays she has authored are giving youthful talents a chance to shine in schools across the state. All the more reason why State Farm would like to have Hilda take center stage as our latest Good Neighbor Award recip ient. We're also delighted to present a check for $5,000 to St. Clair Elementary School in her name. After all, when you've got a flair for the dramatic like Hilda Hobson, you deserve a curtain call of your own.
