hugged. First ascents are a climber's dream. We saw the same things the high-flying condors of the area see, peaks 80 miles north in Torres del Paine, Chile's famous climbing park. That day we reached five other summits in an orgy of mountaineering. It would be our last hurrah. The next day hurricane-force winds pinned us in camp. Instead of rejoicing, we were soon wondering how we would escape.
