DIVING AND LEAPING TOGETHER, A DOLPHIN "FAMILY" PLAYS ABOUT A SHIP Their sleek bodies strongly arched, the quartet begins a shallow dive with tails lifted and heads almost entirely submerged. The dolphin on the left is half grown, and the second one is a calf still young enough to nurse, yet able to keep up with the adults. There was an old belief that the souls of dead sailors entered dolphins, and that the bodies of drowned men were carried ashore on their backs.
