Widener brought these flamingos from Cuba to the enclosure near Miami, Florida. During the first seven years of their stay, they raised no young. Park attendants finally made them feel at home in the breed ing season by providing stacks of loose soil, sticks, and dry grass on an island in the lake. The birds fell to with a will and erected their turret nests. One hundred and fifteen vigorous fledglings have appeared since 1939.
