Official Photograph U.S.Navy "Ship-of-all-work" Is the Slim, Sleek Destroyer, Always Hurrying on Some Mission A destroyer at sea is ever rolling, her masts swinging pendulumlike across the sky; yet these little ships canride through any weather. When the ocean gets rough, their crews often must eat standing up-if they feel like eating at all! Modern destroyers carry small-caliberguns, tobeused against ships and planes, and many torpedo tubes. They hunt submarines, scout ahead of the fleet, lay smoke screens, escort convoys, or do anyodd job(opposite page).
