Steam and sulphur rise from Bromo, a crater here obscured by its taller neighbor. Both cones are enclosed within thewalls ofMount Tengger, their parent volcano. Viewed from Tengger's wide rim, this wasteland seems as awesome as a pit on the moon. Natives once hurled human sacrifices into Bromo.
