Bonnie Scotland, Postwar Style 579 Here Tam o' Shanter Sat "Bousing at the Nappy, an' Getting Fou and Unco Happy" A new oat thatch rises over Tam's inn, a public house in Ayr. A bar now stands in the room where Burns's hero "got planted unco right." At Tam's elbow sat Souter Johnny, "his ancient, trusty, drouthy crony." A painting over the door depicts Tam's leaving for his witch-haunted ride (Plate XXXII).
