From its tower fell the 19-ton bell Bummerin, cast in 1711from Turkish cannon. As byamiracle, the 449-foot spire survived, but the glazed-tile roof collapsed (page 650). The old Inner City surrounds the cathedral. Some ofitsbuildings were lost.
