Edison by a traveling salesman. Learning ofMr. Edison's desire to move his factory to the rural districts, the salesman told him of some unfinished buildings in Schenectady. Theywere quietly inspected, approved, and purchased with the cooperation of merchants in that city. The works normally employ 20,000 people (see text, page 577).
