Over a hundred years ago the rising lavas broke through the weak tufa sides and flowed downavalley. These steam-filled lavas exploded into most frightful shapes and form one of the most desolate of views. Had the lavas ofNik-k6 been torn into such beds of desolation there would be no such beauty as is there now.
