Pelicans became pelicans long before man became man, a study of the distribution of the eleven existing species leading to the conclusion that atleast aslate asthelatter part of the Tertiary period. our white elican and doubtless also other species, presented much the same appearance that itdoes today. Inmany of the numberless lakes of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, invariably upon the islands, white pelicans nest; acolony containing any where from a dozen to several thousand birds." -FRANK M.
