O A0 The tt ie f e ta b gs y a 0 N PLANTING A TEA SEEDLING: CEYLON The tea tree is propagated entirely from seeds, the seed of the tea being slightly larger than a hazelnut. When theseedling isabout seven or eight months old it is planted, as shown in this illustration. It grows to four or six feet highintwo years, when itiscutdown almost to the ground. The first picking does not take place until the third or fourth year. The averagetea tree lives for50years, though it is said that there are records in China of trees attaining 300 and even 400 years.
