GROUP TAKEN IN AUTHOR'S CAMP AT POONAKHA The Tongsa and officials were particularly pleased with the magic lantern shown them privatelyand asked forasecond display inthefort. We obliged them a few evenings later to a vast crowd-I should think of at least a thousand people-who, from theremarks Iattimes over heard, took a keen and intelligent interest in the performance. In addition to slides made from myTibetan pictures, Ihad several ofIndia and Europe, and we wetted the screen thoroughly to enable the audience on both sides to see. The four figures inthecenter, from left toright, are Poonakha Jongpen, Thimbu Jongpen, Sir Ugyen, Paro Penlop and his son, Deb Zimpon, and on theright Ugen Dorji.
