THE SOUTHERN BAMBALA YOUTHS ARE RATHER EFFEMINATE IN APPEARANCE, BUT THEY HAVE GREAT POWERS OF ENDURANCE Always gay, easily made happy, they are friendly toward Europeans and make most desirable neighbors and companions. The northern Bambala are strongly built and tall, but farther to the south, with increasing scarcity of food comes a slighter type, which also seems to be lighter in color. The hands and feet are small and they use their toes with great dexterity in picking up objects from the ground. In the north the women are rather homely, but in the south genuine beauty is to be found among the softer sex.
