It would be agreat pity, asthis isone of the most beautiful parts of the shore. The Beira Mar ("By the Sea") Drive skirts this shore and others of the bayside ofthecity, connecting through atunnel with the Avenida Atlantica, the ocean boulevard. In early colonial days Botafogo, a fashionable residential suburb, was some distance from the city, but the city grew to embrace it and to extend far beyond this crescent bay.
