Newman BUILDING A RAILROAD BRIDGE IN JAPAN Although the island kingdom of Asia now has 7,000 miles of railways, the first line, 18 miles long, from Tokyo toYokohama, was built only 51 years ago. One of the greatest engineering feats of modern times is the tunneling of the Moji-Shimonoseki Strait, separating the island ofKyushu from the main island of Honshu. The work was begun in 1920 and will be completed in 1928. The tunnel, will beseven miles long, one mile of which will be completely under the sea.
