Inthe foreground istheseven arched Drusus Bridge, across the Nahe, which flows into the Rhine at this point. It stands upon the foundations ofastructure built bythe Roman general, Nero Claudius Drusus (38-9 B. C.). On the skyline, across the Rhine, appears a national monument which commemorates the founding of the German Empire in 1870-71.
