Although Quito is situated practically on the Equator its climate, due to an elevation of more than 9,000 feet above sea level, isone ofperpetual springtime. Flowers bloom the year round and what the natives call "winter" differs from other seasons mainly in an increased rainfall. The city has apopulation of more than 100,000.
