They still have strongholds in the Amazon Basin and the Pantanal (below)-a vast wetland shared by Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Protected areas exist throughout the jaguar's range, but many of these nature reserves are small and isolated. A key goal: creating greenbelts to link scattered refuges.
