96 J. S. Diller-Our Youngest Volcano. largest trees near the cinder cone are not less than 200 years old, so that the eruption at the cinder cone must have occurred a little more than 200 years ago. On the whole, it would seem probable, therefore, that our youngest volcano south of Alaska is not the cinder cone ten miles northeast of Lassen peak as once supposed, but is most likely to prove to be mount Baker, in Washington.
