The report of the ordnance survey of Great Britain states that the area revised during the year ending March 31, 1897, was 4,623 square miles. The sale of maps realized £17,715. ICELAND. The Althing, or Icelandic parliament, has resolved to grant an annual subsidy of 35,000 kroner for 20 years to a company which has undertaken to lay a submarine cable from Iceland to Scotland via the Faroe isles. The Danish government also has promised financial aid, and it is expected that the cable will be laid early next summer.
