Culver Twin Stairways, One for Gentlemen, the Other for Ladies, Balance the Hall at Clifton "King" Carter, the foremost real estate agent of colonial days, built this Northumberland County house as a hunting lodge. Staircases led to men's and women's bedrooms in opposite wings. Mrs. Lou Palmer Strong (left) and her sister, Miss Agnes Palmer, live here as have their forebears since 1800. Floor rugs are Navajo-made.
