Photograph by Giacomelli from ENIT AS HE HUFFS AND PUFFS, A PINK-HOT GLASS BUBBLE BECOMES A SHAPELY VASE Highlights gleam from the forming flower vase, which the man at the right is blowing in a glass factory on theisland ofMurano, near Venice. Before reaching this stage, he drew the pipe, or blowing iron, from the furnace. Then, dipping its bulbous end in the crucible, he pulled outamass ofmolten glass. Ashetwists the pipe and blows through it, a glass bubble forms, which an assistant deftly shapes with the tools (page 347).
