Round About Grim Tarawa © National Geographic Society Kodachrome by W. Robert Moore Old Glory Waves from a Beheaded, Shrapnel-torn Palm on Hard-won Tarawa Here the first colors were raised when the Second Marine Division stormed ashore and took Betio Island, November 20-24, 1943.
