Staff Photographer B.Anthony Stewart Grim and Battle-scarred, a Veteran of 1,800 Years Broods over Men and Angels onthe Banks ofFather Tiber Hadrian's Tomb (Castel Sant' Angelo) has been mausoleum, fort, castle, barracks, and museum. It was once magnificently marble-encrusted. The bridge isPonte Sant' Angelo, also built by Hadrian but frequently restored. The angels were designed by Bernini and executed byhis pupils in1669-70.
