George R.Foltz Prehistoric Postholes Blueprint Summit Buildings and Palisades atop Georgia's Irene Mound Here excavation has reached the fifth of eight superimposed mounds which formed the final hill. Fire basin andwall foundation of summit building of mound 6 remain (B). Mound 6 also had second daub and wattle building (F), and palisade (E) encircled its summit. Palisade(C), building area (A), and molds left bylog steps (D) are from mound 5. Fill used to build much higher mounds 7 and 8 shows at left (G). County engineers who needed dirt removed rear of mound in1911.
