From every angle they are colorful and distinctive. They exemplify in a remarkable way the Greek paradox of "diversity with uniformity." Artists and designers study them for the inspiration of color combinations and originality of blends and tints. The Province of Oriente, on the east end of the island, is the only place in the world where these particular snails are found. Here are presented handsome members of the Polymita genus: (1, 5, 7) muscarum; (2, 3) picta; (4) venusta; (6) versicolor; (8) flammulata; (9) picta (with subspecies).
