Photograph by George Shiras, 3d ALL POWER ON! This New Brunswick moose was surging across Nictor Lake at a rate which required the best efforts oftwo strong paddlers inacanoe tobring the camera within range. This animal was feeding in eight feet of water because the plants in the shallow bays had been eaten. Moose canremain submerged for nearly a minute, and some observers report that the ears are lowered so as to exclude the water from theeardrums.
