ST. LAWRENCE OLD CHURCH IS THE ISLAND'S SMALLEST Even after it was enlarged, it now is only 30 feet long and 12 feet wide. The north door was closed because, local tradition says, it was so low that a rector, late for services, struck his head against the lintel and was killed. The older part of the edifice dates from the twelfth century. Photograph byA.W.
