The architects were the late Cass Gilbert, Cass Gilbert, Jr., and J.R. Rockart, of New York. Across the street at the right stands the Library of Congress, soon to be doubled in capacitybyanannex attherear, totheright ofthewhite marble Folger Shakespeare Library. There have even been hearings on enlarging the Capitol by extending the center eastward toward theplaza where thecars areparked.
