©Compagnie Aerienne Franco-Canadienne THIS MAMMOTH ROCK SHIP SEEMS HEADED FULL SPEED FOR DESTRUCTION ONTHE CLIFFS OFGASPE Angry waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence have gnawed a hole in the "hull" of Rocher Perce and separated its "tender," towing behind. The rock isdisintegrating rapidly. It is estimated that 300 tons of stone and earth fall into the sea annually, and if this rate continues, in about 13,000years themass will beannihilated. Dwarfed in contrast is the tiny village of Perce, beyond, with its bright fishing boats anchored in the bay (see Color Plates IV and Vand text, pages 225-7).
