Ends aresquared byhuge saws whose teeth are set with black diamonds. For use in the Mellon Institute at Pittsburgh, 62 such columns were turned. Two sphinxes before theScottish Rite Temple inWash ington, D. C., were carved from blocks of Bedford limestone weighing 100 tons each. Other cuts have weighed upto300 and 400tons (page 275).
