The legions hecommanded, units in the Allied armies, were made up of patriotic Czechs and Slovaks. Sweeping land-reform laws divided large estates ofnoblemen and made landowners of farmers who cultivate the narrow fields. Wheat, barley, and oats are ripening, almost ready for harvesters from Brezova, thevillage below.
