Photograph byArthur H.Fisher AS FRIGHTENED CATTLE DASH DOWN THE CORRAL, LASSOS WHIRL AND CAPTURE THE BEASTS FOR BRANDING When the loop settles over an animal's head, a few turns of the other end of the rope are taken around a fence post. Then cowboys armed with spiked poles maneuver their charge toward the fence. The slack in the rope is taken in until the beast is near the railing, where it is thrown. A vaquero sitsonits back orhead while thelegs are tied, and the animal is then branded and released (page 654).
