A Special Exhibition of the Sacred Tooth, Kandy, Ceylon The Sacred Tooth (of Buddha) was brought to Ceylon from India by a princess and enshrined inapalace ofitsown. Itwas -P carried off as loot by one of the Malabar raiders of Ceylon ten centuries later, recaptured and returned toCeylon, and treasured inaLri hidden shrine until 156o, when the Portuguese took it and carried it to India, where they burned itwith great pomp and threw the ashes into the sea.
