TIlPI(HONIE CONSTRUCTION IN Till FLAT IIJ:AD NATIONAL PARK: MONTANA The forest service has already built 7,000 miles of telephone lines in the forest reserves, but 45,000 miles more are required and will be constructed as soon as funds are available From the foregoing it will be seen that enormous advances have been made in fire protection in the last few years. The annual fire loss is being very greatly re duced. The problem is, however, by no means solved. There is still required a great deal of public education, to elimi nate carelessness in the use of fire in the forest. Many States have not yet ade quate fire laws, and the appropriations for fire protection by the States and by the government are still inadequate.
