THE BIG FELLOW WHO NEARLY FINISHED "J. T. JUNIOR "At the third desperate charge of the huge beast, and just as he was almost upon the tent boy, whowas carrying J.T.Junior, alucky shot brought him down. It took some time for the monkey to screw up courage to go on an exploring expedition over thebody ofhis late enemy." The monkey, named "J. T . Junior," was captured on the Tana River in the first month of the expedition's travels and remained amember ofthe party throughout the two years-often the most helpful member in the good cheer he furnished. In theclimb ofMount Kenia he was stricken with mountain sickness at 15,000 feet elevation and had to be sent back.
