A RELIGIOUS PROCESSION IN APPENZLL, Each year the girls of Appenzell don the quaint traditional costume of the canton for taking part in theannual procession ofthe Virgin through the streets of the little town, which is a noted cure resort and tourist center. Appenzell is one of theoldest cantons inthe Swiss Confedera tion, dating from 1513. It is divided into two half cantons. Inner Rhodes, of which the capital is Appenzell, ismainly agricultural and itsin habitants almost entirely Roman Catholics. Outer Rhodes, with its capital-Trogen-is devoted to cotton weaving, while its people are all Protestants.
