Photo from Egypt Exploration Fund POTTERY COFFIN AND DOUBLE BURIAL This picture shows a striking contrast to the method of burial shown on pages 1038 and 1039. There we seeanexample ofburial from oneof the earliest periods of ancient Egyptian history; here we have one from a very late date. The coffin in both cases isofpottery, but thelater form is shaped to fit the body and is large enough to contain two mummies. This practice of double burial began about theendofthePtolemaic period, and examples of it are not common.
