GROWING APPLES IN THE DESERT Photo from U.S.Reclamation Service This thriving young apple orchard is growing on what a few years ago was part of the desert plain ofIdaho. This transformation isdue to the water furnished by the Boise Project of the U. S . Reclamation Service, upon which the government has spent more than eight million dollars. Ninety-seven per cent of all the land which is served by the government reclamation projects, or which isready tobethus served, is occupied (see page 209).
