photograph by Kiser ON THE RIM TRAIL OF CRATER LAKE, OREGON "The eye beholds twenty miles of unbroken cliffs ranging from five hundred to nearly two thou sand feet in height, encircling a deep sheet of placid water in which the mirrored walls vie with the originals in brilliancy and greatly enhance the depth of the prospect. Although the blue of the lake is deeper than anyone who has not beheld it can imagine, it is yet so transparent that even on a hazy day a white dinner plate ten inches in diameter may be seen at a depth of nearly one hundred feet." 390
