Approached by massive flights of steps, it rises to a height of 200 feet from the center of a colonnaded platform. Themonument cost $5,ooo,ooo and was under construction for 25 years. The statue of the first king of modern Italy and that of General Grant (unveiled inWashington on April 27of this year) are within a few inches of the same size and are said to be the largest equestrian statues in theworld.
