Official Photograph, U.S.Army Air Corps THE ENVIRONS OI' ALBANY, NEW YORK This picture shows with great distinctness the irregular checkerboard effect of farms on which different crops have been planted. The experienced cross-country pilot is able to tell by a glance beneath him just what kind of a landing field any one of thesespots would make. Afield of standing corn presents a different appearance from one in which new wheat is growing. A plowed field is entirely distinct from one covered with sod. All of these things are quickly learned. The Hudson River is seen at the right.
